Vulvar Pain

Pain at the vulva or vestibule (vaginal opening) can greatly affect your life, from difficulties with wearing tight clothing to being unable to use tampons or have intercourse. Many women struggle with getting a diagnosis or treatment for these conditions beyond birth control.  The pelvic floor is often tense or overactive in many of these conditions causing irritation to the nervous system and leading you to experience burning, itching, sensitivity to touch, unwanted arousal or pain with arousal.

Conditions we treat:

  • Vulvodynia

  • Vestibulodynia

  • Dyspareunia (Pain with sex)

  • Prolapse

Treatment for vulvar pain is individualized to your needs. We will assess the mobility, strength and coordination of the whole body as well as the pelvic floor. Often we find that people with these conditions have tension throughout their body from the pelvic floor to the neck and have difficulty fully relaxing the muscles in these areas. We will work with you to improve the mobility of these muscles through various hands-on techniques, breathing techniques, visualizations and exercises.
